Muscle Me Maybe?

Have you ever been at the gym and could hear someone's music? Well, maybe not since most gyms are larger with more noises. The gym at our apartment is pretty small so not too much noise going on in there. Since it is pretty small, if someone has their music up too loud you can definitely hear it. This afternoon, I walked into the gym and saw a guy running on the treadmill, a pretty buff guy might I add. He was cooling down from his run and I could start to hear this music. I didn't think much of it until I started to recognize the tune. Let's see if you know this one?

Unless, you lived under a rock last summer, you have to know this song. I felt the need to break out in song and sing with him, so I did of course! Okay, not really, I would never do that! I'm not the type person to draw much attention to myself, unless it is in front of my kids at school, in which case I don't care.

Secretly I will admit....I love this song. Shhhh....Don't tell anyone.

Other than having some Carly Rae Jepsen stuck in my head during my workout, I did tackle the terrifying weight machine. I didn't do much, because it's been FOREVER since I have done any real weights. I don't think I have done any weights since my RA diagnosis. Most of my problems are in my hands, elbows, and shoulders, so weights aren't exactly the easiest. I did just a little bit, but a little bit is better than nothing right. I didn't want to overdo the first time. Plus I kept worrying that someone else would come in the door and totally judge me for having no idea what I was doing.

Me and a little HGTV

Where do you get your motivation to run...or for me keep running? I have the hardest time staying motivated, once I get tired and see 1 mile, I want to stop no matter how much I have intended to run. I've found that I do a lot better when there is a certain TV show on and I go for that time frame. Typically I want to see what happens so I have to force myself to keep going.

My television obsession is pretty much anything on HGTV. It is my ULTIMATE goal in life to be on an HGTV show. I am a huge fan of shows like Kitchen Crashers, Property Brothers, Flea Market Flip, etc. However, my biggest fear is that I will be at a Lowe's one day and see someone from one of the House Crashers show, but not be able to use them because I still live in an apartment. Is that totally crazy? It might be even more crazy because I don't even know if they still film new episodes. The whole purpose of this HGTV rant, is that I try to use these episodes to keep me going. Once I see a house get started, I have to see how it finishes! Thank goodness the treadmills at our gym have televisions, otherwise I would quit after 2 minutes.

In the end, I accomplished two things this afternoon...took Zeus for a walk (check out the video so you can see what I put up with every walk...he hates his harness) and ran-walked 2 miles. All of that hard work was quickly squashed after T and I went out for Mexican food. Not our intentions tonight, but we forgot to put the crock pot on this morning.

Tomorrow I tackle the weight machine...maybe.

Birthdays! Birthdays! Birthdays!

No...no...it's not my birthday, but when you are a teacher it feels like it is somebodies birthday every day. At my school, I feel like there are constantly cupcakes, or cookies, or brownies (okay, so I don't like brownies so those don't matter) in the work room leftover from someone's birthday or class event. Today, the day I decided to dive head first into my training and new goals, was no exception. Cupcakes....of all things...mini cupcakes. You know how those mini cupcakes are. They're so tiny and they make you think, "well they're not as big as a regular cupcake so one won't hurt". Of course after you have one, or at least after I have one, I think "well that was delicious, they're still so small and two is still probably less than one normal cupcake, right?....okay...yeah...I'll have two". So, long story short....I had two mini cupcakes.
two mini cupcakes...totally smaller than a regular cupcake....I think
I'm pretending that they're vanilla and I would actually eat them.
(I know call me crazy for not liking chocolate...everybody does)
Not the best start to my day, but I did actually go for a run after school today. Along with being super productive around the apartment instead of sitting on Pinterest. Speaking of Pinterest, I found a 1/2 marathon training program that I liked, but decided I needed to tweak it since it was only a 12 week program. Hello....not a runner here...definitely need more than 12 weeks to find a way to make my body run 13.1 miles without dying. Completely understanding that I have no idea what I am doing, decided to create my own year long training program, allowing some wiggle room for my 10 day vacation to Ireland this summer (YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! Can you tell I'm excited???).

Today I started out by finding my sneakers buried in my car, no really they've been there for a few weeks. Once I found those I head to the gym with T (the boyfriend). I do much better when he is there because I can't just skip out after 5 minutes, which is what I wish I could do almost every time. I used to hate and refuse to do anything on the treadmill except for walk, but I'm starting to do better with it now. Plus the ones at our gym have the TV attached so I can watch HGTV or TLC. I did 2 miles today on the treadmill with 3:00 minutes of running and 1:00 of walking. It took me a little less than 30 minutes. Not my best time, but I haven't run in about 2 weeks and I am always slower on the treadmill, but it was toooooo cold. I hate the cold, I hate being in the cold, so obviously I am not about to go for a run in the cold by choice.

It's not the best start, but it's a start. A start is better than nothing, right? Here's to continuing that start.

Side note...I hope everyone is watching the Bachelor tonight. I'm not a huge fan of any of his last three choices, but am anxiously awaiting his decision for his final two. I know, it is trashy TV and even though the relationships NEVER work, I love it.

Sneakers or Glass Slippers

Hello blog world! I've been following multiple blogs for a while now, mostly home DIY or fashion blogs, but also a few fitness blogs. My roommate from college, D, and I made a decision a while back that we wanted to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon. Now, this marathon is held every year at the Disney World Resort in Florida at the end of February. We made this decision in December of last year, but quickly decided that with our lack of running background 2 months would definitely not be enough time to train. We both grew up swimming and swam together for our college. Well folks, if you're not a swimmer you might not understand, but if you are you will understand that most swimmers are not land people. I always tell people that if you put me in the water, I can do anything, but put me on land and I can barely function. So, yeah...we definitely needed more than 2 months to be able to run 13.1 miles.

I decided that since this weekend was the 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon and I have almost exactly a year to train, now would be the best time to get serious. And what better way to get serious, than to blog about it of course. Who knows if anyone will see this or even start following, but you always hear that writing things down helps you remember what happened and stay focused.

So RunDisney, I'm determined and I'm ready. I have 365 days (just about...the official race date for 2014 hasn't been released yet). I have a lot to deal with on the side, but I'll talk about those boring details later, but I am ready to train and ready to run. I will be running in glass slippers by February 2014!
